When new members are seeking this service they very often misspell the phrase they use. Frequent misspellings are home xchange i.e. omitting the e in exchange, homeexchange; placing these two words together without a space and home echange; leaving out the x in exchange or leaving out the c as with home exhange. This is also very common with apartment echange villa echange. Very often houseswap, houseswaps and houseswapping is used along with homeswap, homeswaps and homeswapping or hoilday is used instead of holiday. Swap often appears as swop.

Important tips
- Confirm dates with the exchange accommodation before you make travel arrangements via email, fax or letter with a signature if possible to avoid dispute.
- Arrange how you will collect the keys for the property, and how both sets of keys will be returned.
- Inform the person you exchange with of any special features in your home e.g. timers, alarms and security systems.
- Ask for a list of other useful numbers to be left in the house.
- Be clear about use of the phone and other facilities.
- Leave the exchange accommodation as you would wish to find your own.
How to improve the number of replies you receive:
- Please enter a good description of your home and area plus a selection of clear photos. Allow plenty of time to find and arrange an exchange before the dates you want to travel.
- Prepare an appealing message to send, offering to be as flexible as you can on dates and length of exchange. Save your message in Word and then copy and paste the message into the message form which appears after you click on ‘Send email to member’. Try to personalise each message before sending – e.g. say what attracts you to their home and area. Also everyone responds well to messages which indicate you have read their listing carefully.
- Target your messages using the ‘Who wants to visit your country’ search feature. This shows the members who want to visit your location.
- It would be unrealistic to expect everyone to reply to every exchange offer. But by contacting other members who want to visit your location, and sending your exchange request to a good selection of members, you will find a good match.
